You’re Also a Criminal If You Beg Police to Release a Criminal” – Former Police Spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi

Lagos, Nigeria – June 8, 2026

Former Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has sparked debate after stating that anyone who pressures security agencies to release or pardon a criminal suspect should also be considered complicit in the offence.

Adejobi made the remark in a public commentary addressing concerns about interference in police investigations and attempts to influence the handling of criminal suspects.

According to him, justice systems can only function effectively when investigations are allowed to proceed without external pressure, including from influential individuals or members of the public.

He argued that individuals who attempt to interfere in the process by begging or pressuring law enforcement officers to release suspects are indirectly supporting criminal behaviour.

> “You’re also a criminal if you beg police to release a criminal,” he reportedly stated, stressing that such actions undermine law enforcement and justice delivery.

The statement has since generated mixed reactions, with some agreeing that interference in criminal investigations weakens the justice system, while others argue that it fails to distinguish between due process rights and obstruction of justice.

Legal analysts note that while it is unlawful to obstruct investigations, public advocacy for fair treatment of suspects remains protected under civil rights frameworks, depending on context.

As discussions continue online, Adejobi’s comment has reignited broader debates around policing, public influence, and the boundaries between advocacy and interference in criminal justice processes.
