About 50 elderly residents from Magamin Diddi village in Magami/Faru Ward, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, have reportedly been kidnapped while on a reconciliation and peace mission.


According to preliminary reports from the community, the victims were travelling for a peace-related engagement when they were ambushed and abducted by armed men suspected to be bandits operating in the area.


The incident has sparked renewed fear and outrage among residents, who say the attack further highlights the worsening insecurity situation in parts of Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.


Community leaders are calling for urgent intervention from security agencies to rescue the abducted persons and prevent further attacks on rural communities.


Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident at the time of this report.

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso , has reportedly threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress following a fresh dispute over party tickets in Kano State. The crisis started after the NDC replaced several candidates earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano. According to reports, the changes were made to enforce a pre-agreed 60/40 power-sharing formula between the Kwankwasiyya bloc and the original NDC structure. Under the arrangement, the Kwankwasiyya bloc was expected to receive 60 percent of elective positions and party offices, while the existing NDC structure would retain 40 percent.
