SUSPECTED BANDIT ATTACK IN OGUN STATE RAISES SECURITY CONCERNS

Residents have been left in shock following a reported armed attack on a drilling company site in Magun community, under Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, on the afternoon of 8 June 2026, amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the country.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT

According to eyewitness accounts, armed assailants suspected to be bandits stormed the company premises around 3:00–4:00 p.m., targeting workers at the site, which is reportedly involved in sand dredging and drilling operations.

During the attack, a security operative believed to be a soldier attached to the site was reportedly killed while on duty, as the attackers overpowered the security presence.

Several individuals were also reportedly abducted during the operation.

CLASH DURING ESCAPE ROUTE

Sources further allege that while the attackers were attempting to escape with the abducted victims, they encountered another group of military personnel, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The confrontation reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities, including security personnel and some of the abducted victims.

However, official confirmation of casualty figures is still being awaited at the time of this report.

GROWING SECURITY CONCERNS

The incident has triggered renewed public concern over the spread of armed violence beyond the northern region, with residents expressing fear over what they describe as increasing insecurity across the country.

Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the attack or confirm the full details of the incident.
