INEC Publishes Forms EC9 and List of Candidates for Rivers South-East Senatorial Bye-Election

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – June 8, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released Forms EC9 alongside the list of nominated candidates for the Rivers South-East Senatorial District bye-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The publication, made public on Sunday, is in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates the commission to display personal particulars of all nominated candidates before elections to allow for public scrutiny and possible objections.

According to INEC, the list includes candidates submitted by various political parties cleared to participate in the forthcoming bye-election. The commission stated that the publication is part of its commitment to transparency, credibility, and adherence to electoral guidelines.

The electoral body also noted that the display of Forms EC9 provides voters and stakeholders the opportunity to verify candidate information, including educational qualifications, personal declarations, and party affiliations.

INEC urged political parties, civil society organizations, and members of the public to carefully review the published documents and report any discrepancies within the stipulated legal timeframe.

The Rivers South-East senatorial bye-election is expected to attract significant political attention, given the strategic importance of the district within the state’s political landscape.

Security agencies have also reportedly begun coordination efforts ahead of the poll to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Further updates on candidate validation and campaign activities are expected as the election date approaches.
