POLICE ARREST AKWA IBOM SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVIST OVER FALSE SECURITY ALARMS

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a social media activist identified as Akaninyene Udo, popularly known as “AK Philo,” for allegedly circulating false security alerts that caused panic among residents of Eket and surrounding communities.

According to police authorities, the suspect was arrested after posting and sharing unverified information on social media that reportedly led to public fear and unnecessary tension in the area.

The Command warned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, stressing that such actions can disrupt public peace, mislead citizens, and strain security operations.

Authorities further emphasized that social media users must act responsibly, noting that while digital platforms are powerful tools for information sharing, they can also be misused to spread propaganda and false alarms capable of causing security breaches and public disorder.

The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that anyone found culpable in spreading false security information will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Residents have been urged to verify information before sharing and to rely only on official security channels for credible updates.
