BREAKING: Northern Elders Forum Urges Tinubu to Declare National Security Emergency

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national security emergency in response to rising insecurity across parts of the country.

In a statement referenced by the group, the NEF expressed concern over worsening incidents of violence, banditry, and kidnappings, warning that the current security situation requires urgent and extraordinary government intervention.

The forum argued that existing security arrangements may no longer be sufficient to effectively address the scale and spread of attacks in several regions, and urged a coordinated national response involving federal and state authorities.

The call adds to growing public debate over Nigeria’s security framework, with stakeholders continuing to push for reforms aimed at improving intelligence, rapid response, and community protection.

The Federal Government has not yet officially responded to the latest call for a national security emergency.
