EKITI POLICE ARREST ACTIVISTS OVER PLANNED PROTEST AGAINST BANDITRY


The Ekiti State Police Command has reportedly arrested several activists alleged to be planning a civil protest over the recent abduction of 17 residents by suspected bandits and the killing of a local pastor in the state.


According to police sources, the suspects were picked up ahead of the planned demonstration, which authorities say could have disrupted public peace and order if allowed to proceed.


The planned protest was said to be in response to rising insecurity concerns and recent violent attacks that have left communities in fear and mourning.


While the police maintain that the arrests were preventive and aimed at maintaining stability, civil rights observers are calling for transparency and urging authorities to respect citizens’ right to peaceful assembly.
