Bandits Abduct Four Women, Kill One in Night Attack on Niger Community; Vigilante Injured

BANDITS ABDUCT FOUR WOMEN, INCLUDING PREGNANT WOMAN, IN NIGER STATE ATTACK

Suspected armed bandits have attacked Maikadauri village in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting four women, including a pregnant woman, during a late-night raid on Monday.

Local sources reported that the attackers stormed the community, firing sporadically, which led to the death of one resident during the incident. A member of a local vigilante group identified as Amos was also said to have sustained a gunshot wound to his leg while attempting to repel the attackers.

Residents described the incident as deeply distressing, expressing concern over what they described as a growing frequency of attacks in the area despite ongoing security interventions. They called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

In a related development, reports indicated that a similar attack occurred a day earlier in the Wawa forest area, where two young men were allegedly killed while gathering firewood.

Community members further claimed that within the past 110 days, at least seven youths have lost their lives in separate incidents linked to insecurity in the region, raising renewed concerns over safety in rural areas.

As of the time of filing this report, the Niger State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the attack.

Authorities are expected to review the situation as residents continue to call for urgent security reinforcement in affected communities.
